beetle, bell peppers, basil harvest, purslane
I saw this large beetle on an echinacea flower. Ming took a picture.
Then Ming took another picture as it flew away.
Here are two purple beauties.
This is today's harvest of much basil for our neighbor, chives for our potato salad, and some cherry tomatoes underneath.
I dug up another purslane to plant in the purslane container at home.

that there is now a second option for the identity of the insect: Figeater Beetle (Cotinis mutabilis) which seems more likely the correct identification.
Thanks facebook.
