Have'a Corn Chips
Last time we went to Whole Foods, we bought two bags of Have'a Corn Chips. Poking around online I read a little about them.
http://www.ocweekly.com/2005-11-24/food/nirvana-corn-chip-style/
Turns out there used to be an om symbol on the bag. Heck yeah! It disappeared after September 11th--coincidence? I guess they don't do interviews. I remember we first got Have'a Corn Chips from a natural foods store in Mammoth Lakes, California. And we fell in love.
But a commenter on the OC Weekly post reminds us that corn and soy are big GMO crops. I don't know how I feel about GMO foods--definitely would rather avoid them. GMO foods is one of the things I should know more about.
Anyway, we ate them with guacamole. I made guacamole for dinner last night and lunch today. Then Erik finished off the second bag with some green salsa just a little bit ago.

I'm writing for the reason that you are explaining. I was wondering about the GMO's and can't find any info. There is "organic" corn and "organic" soybeans, so maybe? Have'a chips is not using the GMO kind? I'm guessing they do because it's likely much cheaper and easier to get since the overwhelming majority of corn in the US is GMO. I hope you're still around to let me know if you have since found out for sure.
Thanks!

Hello! No, I have not found out whether this brand of chips uses GMO corn. But like you, I assume yes, because the overwhelming amount of corn in the US, I've heard too, is GMO. Good luck in your quest for this information, if you're still questing.
Thanks for stopping by!

GMOs or not, I'm still eating them. They are so addictive, I simply couldn't stop if I wanted to...

I will say this, for a company that has been selling the same product for more than 30 years, which is how long ago I first tried them, they are incredibly unavailable to reach by phone.
Even though their telephone number is printed right on the bag along with there address, all be it a Post Office Box. The telephone number printed is 949-494-8339, also 714-731-4774. I have called four times at different times of the day to try and reach anyone from this company. The only person I've ever spoken with is someone from the same paid answering service they use. They can only take a message. Well three messages left over the course of 30 days is enough in my opinion to get a return call, yet to date (10/21/15), I have yet to ever get a call back.
Today, I asked if they ever answer the phone directly and they said yes but they are very busy. So I ask when are they in to answer and I was told that their schedule varies a lot. That is some way to run a business. I don't believe that they ever come to the phone or return calls.
I want the same question answered, are the chips made from GMO free corn or not. And if not why not?
In the beginning these chips were always sold in "Health Food Stores" and the like which was before GMO corn even existed. Now they are still sold at Whole Foods Market and the like but they are also at Fresh & Easy and the like. I can only assume that since they have yet to communicate to their customers the answer to this question that they prefer not to answer it.
Why risk loosing long time customers (is what they must be thinking), who are concerned about what they eat and aren't interested in consuming GMO products.
So the answer is, YES they USE GMO CORN in their "Have'A Corn Chips"!

CABO CHIPS have the same ingredients but taste even better than hava chips. I was raised in Laguna Beach where these are made and grew up eating them daily. I decided to boycott them a few years ago specifically because they use GM ingredients. MANY customers have requested that they change to organic or non GM ingredients to no avail.
Cabo Chips- (better than Have a Chips) use only eco-friendly and biodegradable cleaners, convert their cooking oil into biodiesel, use recycled cardboard for their shipping cartons, produce their bags under strict environmental guidelines with water based inks. The best tasting chips around with a hint of soy and lime. -No Preservatives -No Trans Fats or Cholesterol -Nothing Artificial -Natural, Organic, or Non-GMO ingredients -Vegan -Lower Sodium than most chips.

Hate to break it to you guys, but nearly everything we're eating has been genetically modified...there's really no going organic when it comes to domesticated produce. Then again, by "organic" perhaps they mean sans pesticides and things of that nature. Check this link for some insight on what non gmo produce looks like vs what we eat.

Cecilia, please be careful with your post, alot of what people call GMO is actually hybridization the crossing of pollen between same species, However GMO genetically modified organisms is the manipulation of genes crossing species barriers ( and other adulterations). Certified foods prohibit the use of any GMO components in the growing, handling, packing and processing.

You people need to get a life! If you are so worried about GMO corn or soybeans, quit eating processed foods that come out of a bag!! They are CHIPS -- They are junk food, and they taste good. So eat them, or don't eat them, but this string was like a car crash, I had to see what al the fuss was about and in the end, I didn't care. But I enjoy Have'A Chips, and I could care less if they come from GMO Corn or Soybeans -- They are tasty and I enjoy eating them and aren't going to worry about a bag or two of chips killing me. Enjoy life a little....we're all going to die its just a matter of when so enjoy life and quit worrying so much. You'll give yourselves cancer with bad toxins from all the stress of worrying!

If it doesn't say "Organic" or GMO free, you are simply eating Genetically Modified food! Corn and soy are #1 GMO foods, so you will have a hard time finding Organic corn and soy beans.
